What is ECU Flash Tuning?+
Most engines in modern motorcycles are controlled by an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This continuously regulates, among other things, the amount of fuel injected and the ignition timing. With ECU tuning, the programs are edited that form the engine management on the basis of many parameters (measured values). The chips in an ECU are loaded with software. Often these programs are written far within the maximum load of the respective motor. The space thus offers the possibility to tune the engine, without the engine being irreparably damaged.
Originally, these values are programmed to comply with all frameworks of the law, and to meet a wide range of driving styles. This results in a compromise from the manufacturer, which entails opportunities for improvement.
Improving, for example, injection times and ignition timings with the aim of improving combustion, will result in a better running, better handling and better accelerating engine. In addition, many adjustments can be made that cannot be done with, for example, a Power Commander.
With ECU tuning, those parameters are again tuned, but more ideally, to each other. All this results in engines from 8% to 13% performance improvement, so torque (traction power) and power (top speed). This allows the engine to accelerate faster and increases top speed. With an unchanged driving style, a reduction in fuel consumption is achievable because the efficiency of the engine is increased. The engine becomes more lively and reacts faster to the throttle.
